As mentioned before this all becomes much easier and quicker with experience since you learn the shape in the waveform of different sounds and syllables. Once you can do this it is very easy to find the mistake, zoom in on it and cut the anomaly out. However, as Bob suggests, it is sometimes better to have a complete retake of the sentence or line to pick the correct word from rather than trying to chop out half corrected syllables.
