You would purchase an upgrade from the following link:
Click on the little "Buy" on the right side of the Lightroom section. Purchasing an upgrade requires that you have the serial number from your Lightroom 1 available to enter as well as the serial number for Lightroom 5. And you will be downloading Lightroom 5.6.
