Re: Project panels tabs get reset to root level at project launch!

This issue actually runs pretty deep. I'm working on two different systems and encounter it daily.

At work:

Mac Pro 2008 3,1

Dual Xeon 4 core processors @ 2.8 GHz

OSX 10.9.4

16GB RAM

Radeon 5770 HD 1GB Mac edition

Blackmagic Decklink HD Extreme 3D

Project/source files: 1 2TB internal RAID; 1 4TB external RAID

Media cache/output: Each with a 1TB internal drive

OS/software: 320GB drive

At home:

Intel core i7 4930k 6-core processor @ 4.2 GHz

Win 7 Pro 64 SP1

32GB RAM

EVGA GTX 780 6GB Superclocked ACX

Project/source files: 1 2TB internal RAID

Media caches: Adobe Media Cache on a 250GB SSD, AE disk cache on a 250GB SSD

Output: 1TB internal drive

OS/software: 120GB SSD

Both have 3rd party plugins installed, Video Copilot Twitch and Red Giant Trapcode Suite.

So as you can see, two entirely different systems, one quite old and one brand spankin' new. The same problem happens with me on both, and it is completely at random.

I do work on TV shows and segments, often with hundreds of clips shot on different days. I organize footage into bins accordingly, and have multiple bin tabs open at a time. I have my main project bin open in list view, sorted by label colour (side note: Mac sorts timelines first, then bins; Win sorts bins then timelines.. why the difference??), with the Preview pane displayed. The various footage bins are usually in thumbnail mode with no preview pane.

I can open any given project on either computer, in any order, and it's like Russian roulette with bin setups. Once in a while it opens like I saved it last, but most of the time, everything is jumbled up. Even the problem itself is totally random.

Sometimes bin tabs are still open, sometimes all the tabs are the main project bin. Sometimes they're in order (Project - Day 1 - Day 2 - Day 3 etc.) sometimes they're mixed up. Some of the bins are in list view (always zoomed into giant icons though) some of them are in thumbnail. The two constants are that everything is sorted by name, and all the tabs themselves remain open (they just don't save which bins).

This..is..MADDENING. This never, ever happened in all the years I've been using Premiere until the latest 8.0.1 release. I will submit a bug report, just hoping to spread more light on this seriously annoying issue.

  • Have you installed the recent updates? Yes
  • What operating system? See above
  • What kind(s) of source footage? Large variety. MTS, MP4 sometimes, WAV, AIC, ProRes, MXF, still images
  • If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)? N/A
